How do I get my WordPress favicon to work? I followed the directions but all I see is a white square.?

I have a WordPress blog [hosted on Dreamhost] and I would like to add a favicon to my site. I created a 16x16 image, saved it as a .ico file, uploaded it to my account, and copied some text into my header.php file [I found the instructions on the WordPress website]. This changed my favicon from nothing to a white square, but the two letters on the icon are not present. I checked the image and it%26#039;s still good. What have I done wrong?|||Need to see the link tag code you used to link to favicon. Saving it as an ICO file is right. Wish people wouldn%26#039;t answer questions when they don%26#039;t know what they are talking about.

See the following sites for instructions and making one:

This is a favicon validator site:

Normally a link tag is between the head tags and is like the following:

%26lt;link rel=%26quot;shortcut icon%26quot; type=%26quot;image/x-icon%26quot; href=%26quot;favicon.ico%26quot;%26gt;

Ron|||Don%26#039;t save it as an .ico file. This will save it as a Windows icon file. Browsers can%26#039;t read this type of file.

Re-save it as a normal GIF. Then, go to the file in your file explorer and rename it to %26quot;favicon.ico%26quot;. It must be named that, because some conceited browsers like IE ignore tags that point to a file of another name.|||I also had problem wit favicon. I was doing everything correctly, but it didn%26#039;t display favicon for my site.

Eventually I found a WordPress plugin to display favicon - http://www.digitalramble.com/favicon-man鈥?/a>|||you can use http://www.veryicon.com/favicon.php to generate a favicon and put it in you web root directory
